Israel | Get Lost With Lisa

Between November 2014 and January 2015 I got to spend an incredible 6 weeks as a volunteer in Israel. It was quite possibly the most amazing experience of my life, and I would do it all over again if I could – freezing cold showers in the winter with no heat, and all! The culture of Israel is diverse, to say the least, the environment unlike any you’ve probably experienced, and the varied cultures so unique and contrast to one another, it’s far beyond anything we can recognize in the western world. Though I visited several other towns and villages than are listed here on this page, these are the places I spent more time in while in the Holy Land. Enjoy reading about, watching videos of and seeing pictures showcasing these special places in Israel, and learning about what each location means to its people, the geography and Biblically.

al-Ubeidiya

Mar Saba Monastery is a place few have probably ever heard of, much less have visited. An isolated spot in the middle of the Judaean desert, the “town”, which is quite an overstatement, in which it officially lies is known as al-Ubeidiya. (read more…)

Acre

With a population of over 49,000, a history dating back to perhaps even earlier than 3,000 BC, and with cliff views of the Mediterranean Sea, Acre is a special destination. A community that encompases Muslims, Christians, Jews, Druze and more – while not uncommon in Israel, it’s a melting pot of diversity, and cause for animosity, if not even some terrorism at times. Bethlehem

Bethlehem at Christmas might just be the coolest thing you can do while visiting The Holy Land. There’s not much more I can say, other than I was standing in the spot where Jesus was born – at Christmas time. (read more…)

Bayt Sahur

Ever wanted to visit the same place where the shepherd’s were tending their flock by night when they saw the star? I think we’ve all kind of invisioned it when reading the gospels, but to actually be there is a completely different experience. Especially since it’s completely different than how you’ve probably imagined it. First of all, there’s not really a field. Because after all, we’re now in the 21^st century and things are more industrialized than they were back in the day of Jesus’ birth. (read more…)
