Off the beaten track of the popular wine destination of Tokaj, Hungary, lies a humble little restaurant known as Horgony. Translated as “anchor”, Horgony offers views of the Tisza River, and their menu has most every traditional Hungarian dish you can think of or crave.
While Tokaj’s wine is what brings tourists in, it’s the food that keeps them around. With more popularity and foot traffic on the main street of the charming town, Horgony gives you a relaxing and more local feel when you step inside. The staff are some of the friendliest in the area and their Gulyásleves is not to be missed.
They even have a “guestbook” at the front counter for you to sign before you leave, so a part of you never does.

The prices are very modest and so is the presentation of the restaurant in general. Don’t be shy about practicing your Hungarian here, either! This restaurant catered more for locals isn’t as used to receiving foreigners as some of the busier locations in town. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth visiting.
