Bologna Welcome – Bologna, Italy

Bologna Welcome welcomes you to Bologna.  Bologna Welcome is the Convention & Visitors Bureau of the city of Bologna.  Just so you know. They’ve been around since 2014, and their purpose is a detailed, but generous one.

The company has the distinct pleasure of welcoming tourists and growing the local economy system, with an aim at making Bologna more of a tourist destination of primary international importance. Not only aiming to make it a focal point as a metropolitan dimension, but above all else as a reference point to the region.

Bologna, according to the bureau, is the true essence of the idea or brand,  “Made in Italy”.  A contemporary city which offers authentic experiences and relationships.

But what exactly does Bologna Welcome have to offer?  The answer to that question is: so much!

Bologna Welcome offers several different tour packages.  Touching on both the historic and the metropolitan area of the city, they focus on food and wine, culture, nature and more. The different cards they offer, also include entry into several different attractions.

So what did I do with Bologna Welcome? Again: so much!

I opted for a Bologna Welcome card, which enabled me to gain access not just to a few museums, but to other attractions in the city I might not have otherwise even known about without the card. Here are just a couple of the places I was able to visit with the use of my card:

So what else can you do with Bologna Welcome? I was also able to take advantage of their Discover Bologna Tour. Led by their very knowledgeable and kind tour guide, Roberta, she led us through the city’s historical sites and more!

With the Discover Bologna tour (approx. 2 hours), we were able to visit the famous San Petronio Basilica.

Located in the city center, right in the middle of Piazza Maggiore, the Basilica is 7 centuries old and is still in remarkable shape. Perhaps it’s been renovated since its original construction…?

And while the Basilica is quite grand, I was much more impressed with our second stop on the tour, which was the Anatomical Theatre of the Archiginnasio. Step into the past (and you feel like you do) when you find yourself in this ancient building.

With several other visits along the tour, they were all spectacular and highly educational. Not only do you learn the history of Bologna on the tour, but you are also given some useful and interesting tidbits about the culture and the Bolognese people.

And because my Bologna Welcome card is good for a year, the next time I’m back in the city, I can use it to visit all the other places that remain on my long list.  I can’t wait!

So before you make the hasty decision to do Bologna alone, go visit Bologna Welcome which has several different offices scattered throughout the city. You might find that they are a great alternative to learning about the city than Googling stuff up.

And while you’re there, you can snag some really cool merch like I did! I got a “è Bologna” bag, but it was difficult to choose from all the fun stuff they have to offer! Take something home to remember your time in the city when you stop in.  And don’t forget to tell them Lisa sent you!
