So. Much. Food.
Master Beer may not be what you expect, and in a good way. While it’s located outside of the center of Bologna, and right next door to a supermarket, the restaurant itself is full of surprises!
In 2008 the owner Davide opened up Master Beer full of ideas and positive expectations. Fortunately for him and his customers all of his hopes have come to pass. The restaurant is not only successful because of the great food they serve (and plenty of it), but also for the vibe and energy there.

Master Beer is the master of…beer. Their signature beer? The Master Beer. They are known for their smorgasbord of beers and Lord have mercy their never ending amounts of food.
It’s not just that ‘Master’ has a lot of selection on their menu. It’s that they have a lot of selection and their portion sizes are tremendous. Want a hamburger they have a zillion different kinds. And it’s no surprise that the manager mentions this is their most popular item.

Want a pizza? Flip to the back of the menu and you’ll find a minimum of two pages worth of variety in that category. Want some meat and potatoes? No problem. They have chicken, pork, beef…anything your heart desires. And dessert. Well, let’s just say the elasticity in my pants wore thin by the time dessert was mentioned. So I couldn’t have any. The pictures looked incredible though, and it’s a shame I couldn’t partake in one of the hundred different sundaes, banana splits and other goodies they had to offer.
But don’t worry, as you can see from the video below, I made sure to taste as much as I could for you guys.
It might seem like I tried half the menu, when in reality I barely scratched the surface. And no, I’m not exaggerating. With all the food I ordered, there was still about 85% of the menu left to explore.
Unique Events
It’s not just food and drinks that the restaurant has to offer its guests, though. If you’re looking for a fun night out, why not stop in on Tuesdays when they have game night. Or how about Wednesdays when they have live music at the restaurant. Better yet, come on Thursdays when they have a chat session among all the guests in the restaurant. Not sure what I mean? Everyone is given the opportunity to text with each other throughout the whole restaurant on their phones – to get to know each other better. Hey, what a slick way of finding a date.
And if it’s a date you’re interested in, then you might want to stop by once a month when they have singles’ night. Every thirty days or so they have an evening set aside for singles of different age groups, and they host a singles’ event in order to mingle and get to know each other.
Friday nights they host 60’s music night, and Sunday nights is dedicated to watching soccer matches on the tube. Seriously, this place has its act together.
Smart Business
What the owner has done though to set himself apart from others in the biz, is by starting a trend and stopping it cold turkey once others in the area have taken the idea on for themselves. He doesn’t like to be doing the same as others and that is why he’s always coming up with new ideas, and ways of getting that steady flow of traffic.
The clientele is almost exclusively Italian, which is another reason to stop in – they’re not placating to tourists.

If these aren’t all reasons to stop in and have some “American-style” grub in lieu of the same old pasta and ragu every night, then I don’t know what is. The vibe is casual, down to earth, and yes, very American. They even have an American flag inside the restaurant. Need I say more? If you’re like me, and want some working man’s food from time to time, head on over to Master Beer, grab yourself a cold one and tell them Lisa sent you!
