Reasons for Success
Faidimos opened its doors to the public in 2015. Prior to running the restaurant, Dimitrios, the co-owner ran a small take-away shop for 8 years. With experience both in business and in food, he had a lot to offer when it came time to open Faidimos. In the past 4 years, Dimitrios has been very successful. And Dimitrios thinks the reasons behind this are two-fold. Because of the economy crisis in Greece, businesses in general suffered greatly throughout the country for several years, long before he opened his newest business. But once the budget airlines rolled into town, Thessaloniki and most specifically, Faidimos, prospered in ways no one in the city could have ever expected. This city, known for its historical roots, has never really been one of the top destinations for tourists wanting to visit Greece. But thanks to Ryan Air and Wizz Air, businesses in the northen city are flourishing.
And it’s not just this that has made Dimitrios’ restaurant such a success. It’s also the fact that he has great food and terrific staff to boast about. With a smiling waitress coming and going in and out of the kitchen with authentic and traditional Greek food, no one leaves unhappy or hungry. He adds, that the staff is more like family rather than servers and employer, and that’s quite apparent when you’re there.

Suprisingly enough, Faidimos has more traffic during the week, rather than on the weekends. Which is a good tip for those of you looking for some great Greek food on a Friday or Saturday night while in town.
Attitude is Everything
“The restaurant’s personality is what sets us apart from other restaurants in Thessaloniki”, he says. “The guests are not just customers, but are treated like family when you come here.”
There’s no such thing as “a specialty” dish at their restaurant. For Dimitrios, a special dish is whatever you consider to be your favorite. Which is a great attitude to have as an owner of any business.
But, the most unique thing about his restaurant is most definitely the personal touch. Dimitrios not only owns the restaurant, but he cooks, he chooses the ingredients, creates the recipes and even serves the dishes to his customers. And unlike restaurants in other southern European countries, Faidimos stays open for both lunch and dinner without closing in between. A great perk for that hungry tourist looking for a place to sit down for a meal at an odd time of day.
Try Everything…Just Like Me…
My experience at Faidimos? It was unforgettable! As I’d never been to Greece before, and had just arrived that day, Faidimos was my first experience with authentic Greek food. Dimitrios sat with me while I ate my…I dunno, 14-course meal? All the items he brought out to me, he’d personally chosen and prepared before I arrived that evening. Talk about the personal touch, right? And while I merely tasted the majority of the dishes he brought out, I was stuffed by the end of the night.

The food was honestly delicious and the thing that remained in my mind the rest of my time while in the country was a feta cheese-tomato dish. It was something that needed to be finished before I left the table.

The grilled vegetables I had were outstanding and very tasty, the slow-cooked pork with rice was also fantastic and more than anything, very filling.
Their food is fresh, traditional and will certainly leave you wanting more. And of course, I was more than impressed with their service, staff and “treat you as family” approach. You do feel like you’re immersed in and a part of someone else’s history while at Faidimos. With old, framed family photos lining the walls, it gives you a cozy and warm sense while there.
So, do yourself a favor. Stop in, eat some amazing Greek food and don’t forget to tell them Lisa sent you!
