Just Gelato
Owner Nick and his partner began running Solo Gelato in 2014 in the heart of Fira. But the business itself has been going strong since 1951. That’s a super long time for any business, so clearly they’re doing well – and doing something right. And there’s proof in the pudding. Er, um, I guess in this case, the ice cream?
They have won 2 best gelato competitions in Europe. One in 2012 in Berlin for their pistacchio. And in 2015 they won second place for their mango. Which I can confirm is amazing.
They have another shop in Oia as well, which is a bit bigger and there, they carry frozen yogurt. The most popular item is their gelato of course, but with a great emphasis on their pistachio. Their sorbets are also a hot ticket item, particularly their mango. No surprise. What’s exceptionally important about their sorbets is that they only use fruit, no added coloring. This might make you feel slightly less guilty about having seconds (and you’ll want them) knowing that their items are fresh and natural rather than entirely processed. And not only are their sorbets made with fresh fruit, but the owner emphasizes that their ice cream is made with fresh milk imported from somewhere near the island of Naxos. Wow. They take this stuff seriously.

You can find them right in the center of town, too!
The Tastes
It’s no surprise then that their gelato is delicious, and even less surprising that I fell in love with their smoothies. No joke, if you have to choose between their ice cream and the smoothies (which I know is very hard to do) definitely don’t pass up on their smoothies. The smoothie I had was with their mango sorbet, banana, kiwi and a piece of heaven…? Whatever they did to make that smoothie taste as amazing as it was, they did something magical. And after I advised you all on camera to order one when you come to Solo Gelato, a female customer overheard me and promptly ordered one for herself. I know. I influence everyone. That’s my job.
They have more than a whopping 80 different flavors. Take that Baskin & Robbins! And no, I didn’t taste all 80 flavors. Although I tried.

Because of their high amount of selection, each week they change out the different gelatos so that there’s always something new to try. A good excuse to go to Santorini once a month, right?
