GREEN COAST Beach Bar – Espinho, Portugal

In 2015, owner Miguel opened the GREEN COAST Beach Bar.  Because bars in the area typically only serve coffee and alcoholic drinks, he decided to make their place special.  Offering snacks for lunchtime patrons, and specialized cocktails both in the afternoon and in the evening, they’re different for other reasons too.  With specialty drinks including strawberry champagne sangria, they stand out from other bars in Espinho – and in a good way.

The first thing that might catch your eye about  GREEN COAST, is that everything is green.  That and the fact that they have mini-lounge tents for rent right on the beach.  The bar is designed to look similar to a cabana style setting, with beds and even swings on offer for guests on the beach.

And while they can’t serve you directly on the beach for liability reasons, they have no problem with you taking your cocktail out to one of the beach beds while you relax in the sun.  Stare out at the beautiful ocean as you sip on your passion fruit daiquiri, or nibble on one of their scrumptious tapas.

Did I mention the food? They’re known primarily for their spectacular prawns, but this isn’t the only thing you can order here at GREEN COAST.  Though they offer mostly snack items for both lunch and dinner patrons, aside from the prawns and the clams, their most popular item is their signature burger.  That’s right, the GREEN COAST double burger with specialty bread is a hot selling item.  And guess why? It’s that special bread. What makes it so special? It’s imported all the way from the island of Madeira, a neighbor to the west of mainland Portugal.

And it’s not just strawberry or passion fruit sangria that they can make well at GREEN COAST.  They also have red and white wine versions of the drink, and apparently make a killer Piña Colada.  But…I think I’m going to have to go back and try it for myself before we make any concrete declarations about it.

What’s most important to GREEN COAST is that they treat their customers as though they are the most important aspect of the job.  A great attitude to have at any business. Treating them with respect, they believe that if you have this mentality, you will be successful.  And they’re right.  While I was there that day, I felt as though I were being treated extra special.  This in turn encouraged me to stay longer than I normally would have.  And also because they kept bringing me cocktails and who can say no to that?

The experience was truly one of the best I had the whole month I was in Portugal.  Giving you the feel of a 60s beach vibe with the music, atmosphere and location, you’ll feel relaxed welcome and altogether happy after you’ve spent some time here.

Occasionally the bar hosts parties and events, allowing their guests to stay late and enjoy the beach vibe that they’re most proud of at their place. So all in  all this is a pretty awesome place.

So what are you waiting for? Go get a cocktail at GREEN COAST Beach Bar, grab a beach bed and tell them Lisa sent you!
