O Camelo das Caldeiradas Restaurant – Praia da Vagueira, Portugal

Step inside one of the most traditional Portuguese restaurants you’ll find throughout the whole of the country! And, as an added bonus, get ready to eat well and save a lot!

O Camelo das Caldeiradas has been around for quite a while, which is why they know what they’re doing.  Which includes, how to serve their guests the right way.  Portuguese and foreign customers alike come to O Camelo in search of something traditional and tasty.

While my appetite didn’t beckon anything with eel, or with snails (another delicacy you can find at O Camelo), that was just fine.  Considering that I had delicious dishes that were not of the eel or escargot persuasion, people with all different types of palates can enjoy a meal here.

Though the codfish (a very typical Portuguese dish) and the Picanha (a typical Brazilian dish), my favorite choice of the day was the grilled salmon.  So good in fact, I couldn’t leave it.  I had to finish it all before I left the restaurant – it was that good. The salmon was so fresh, so tender and so flavorful, it was hard to believe the prices are as low as they are at O Camelo.

The atmosphere here is also very traditional.  With the typical colorful Portuguese tiles surrounding the restaurant’s guests from every angle, you are immersed in deep blues and yellows.

Feel free to order a local beer, or try some wine while you’re at O Camelo as well.
And if you’re interested in a light dessert, they have different beach-like fruits on  offer, like pineapple and melon.

Their mixed seafood stew is not only one of their most traditional items on the menu, but one of their most popular as well!

You’re not going to be sorry you came in when you see how family-oriented the staff are as well.  Their friendly approach to customer service is key to them.  And making sure the guest is happy is of utmost importance to everyone working at O Camelo.

Located just a hundred meters from the beach, you have the option  of sitting inside, with plenty of seating space, or outside with the cool breeze on a hot day.

So stop in for your tasty traditional Portuguese lunch, and make sure to let them know that Lisa sent you!
