The best thing you can order at Dom Vinho is the crab dip appetizer at the start of your meal!
Portuguese Fare Meets Angolan Cuisine
Have you ever had traditional Alentejo food? How about traditional Angolan food? How about the two intertwined? If you’ve always wanted to try either of the two, or both, then look no further than Don Vinho!
While the owner may be native to Portugal, he spent many years living in Angola, and perfecting his culinary skills in the country. With his own restaurant in the small village of Borba now, he welcomes guests with traditional and not-so traditional dishes. With plenty of pork, cod and other Portuguese fare to go around, he is most proud of his Angolan recipes.

The atmosphere at Dom Vinho is some of the best you’ll find at any restaurant in town. With dim lighting to set the mood for a quiet and relaxing evening, the restaurant is small, but friendly. The staff is very welcoming and my waitress spoke English very well, and was extremely “simpatica”. A great reassurance for any guest like me, who doesn’t speak Portuguese.
My experience was most certainly unique, and one the likes of which I’d never experienced before. The cod dish I ordered came in a rice concoction with cilantro and other such spices. While the codfish had a slight Mexican flare to it, the aroma, texture and taste were all particularly unique.

The pork was my favorite of the entrees, however. The meat was juicy, well prepared and keeping in line with all Alentejo food, dripping with natural grease. Don’t forget to ask about their desserts, which are also traditional to the region, and very light compared to the rest of the meals they prepare at the restaurant.

But if you order nothing else while you’re here, try the crab dip! Wow! There is nothing better at this restaurant than the appetizer at the beginning. I fell in love with it so much, I nearly asked to have a second round of it. The flavors are incredible, and you won’t regret trying it.

And if it’s not the unique cod recipe or the fattiest (and most delicious) part of the pork you’re interested in, try some other favorites of the chef. With pork medallions, an array of seafood that you can choose from, among other things, you are in store for something unbelievable no matter what you order!
Just remember that when you stop in, you let them know Lisa sent you!
