Paradise in Portugal
Paradise is in the middle of the Alentejo region in Portugal. Surrounded by nothing but olive trees and a vast dry land, you are reminded of the rural areas of Tuscany. The silent escape of the real world is perhaps just but for a short time, but you can do it in comfort, on a budget and with some great wine by your side!
Monte do Colmeal isn’t just a few bungalow-like cottages sitting out in the middle of nowhere. It’s much more than that. It’s the essence of peace and serenity. Making you feel as though you haven’t a care in the world, Monte do Colmeal is the perfect B&B to get the best R&R.
Though they have limited rooms, the country house has a lot to offer. For starters, the perfect place to cool off on a hot Alentejo day is in their large swimming pool. A site which couples nicely with the view from the poolside cottage (which I was fortunate enough to book), it adds to the entire visual charm of the establishment.
What They Offer
Perhaps the greatest part about Monte do Colmeal, aside from the view, the relaxing atmosphere and the super cozy cottages, is the wine tasting. Provided in your stay, Colmeal has great wine on offer. Whether you want to sit out on the patio and indulge in said beverage while you look out at the glorious and serene view, or if you want to purchase some wine to take home with you. Whatever you fancy, they are there to accommodate you.

The staff at Monte do Colmeal is also extremely pleasant and helpful. With maid service each morning, you are sure to enjoy the comforts of your room, and of course the grand breakfast that is included in your stay each morning. Attention to detail is key at Monte do Colmeal. Making sure their guests are happy with whatever their needs may be, you will never have a problem while you’re there.
English channels are available, stunning panoramas, and comfortable mattresses are all a part of your stay at the fantastically charming country house.
Nearby Attractions

And while you may not want to leave Monte do Colmeal (ever), if you do decide to head to the town of Mourão, they have bikes available for rent at the country house. Don’t want to go to Mourão? How about the neighboring village of Monsaraz, where you can check out a spectacular castle and ancient arena? All within a 15 minute drive from the country house, you are set for sights and sunsets.
The Beauty

Oh, did I not mention the sunsets? Yes, they’re amazing. And apparently Mourão is known throughout the region (if not the whole country) for these incredible creations the Lord has blessed us with. The sunsets are so phenomenal, you will want to do nothing but stare at them the entire evening. And best of all, you can sit out on the patio with their colorful outdoor decor, while you sip wine enjoying the view. Better still, you might want to stay in your room and gaze at the sun setting over their magnificent pool while you have a romantic evening in.
Whatever your favorite part about the idyllic location, the point is, you won’t want to leave Monte do Colmeal. As I did not want to leave. So what are you waiting for? Go book your poolside room now, and enjoy the beauty that is waiting for you at Monte do Colmeal. And when you do, make sure to tell them Lisa sent you!
