Ristorante Pizzeria L’Italiano – Évora, Portugal

Have a hankering for some pizza and pasta while you’re in the charming and historical town of Évora? Then perhaps you might like to consider Ristorante Pizzeria L’Italiano as a place to stop in and have some home style Italian food.   Not just any Italian food, but Sicilian food!

When I stopped in to have a quick lunch at the pizzeria, I found the staff to be even more enjoyable than the food itself! The two owners, who are Portuguese and Sicilian respectively, have turned this family-run business into a charming homage to Italy.  The wife of the pair, moved to Germany when she was a young girl, and began working at an Italian pizzeria.  This is where she learned the secrets of Italian cuisine, and also where she met her husband.  The two later opened up their own pizzeria in Germany, but eventually moved back to her native Portugal. And the rest, as they say, is history.

With stone walls and arches throughout the entire restaurant, guests are made to feel like they’re in a rustic setting in southern Italy, rather than in a historic town in Portugal.  Seating is ample throughout the whole place, and the staff is beyond friendly and attentive.  Though there are only 5 people on staff, only 1 isn’t a part of this fine family.

While I had some delicious Pasta al forno, apparently the most popular item on the menu is their calzone. But you should still try that Pasta al’forno!

Their clientele is mostly local, especially in the winter months, but come late spring/early summer, you’ll find that the restaurant is an equal balance of both locals and tourists.   Another dandy note is that the staff speak a total of 4 languages, so you’re more than likely covered.   Each of them has their own talents with English, Italian, Portuguese and German. An amazing advantage for anyone coming into the restaurant!

Their hours of operation are 12-3 pm/ 6:30  – 10:30 pm Tuesday-Sunday.  Plenty of time for you to pop in and try some Italian food made personally for you by a genuine Sicilian. That’s right, her Italian husband is the chef. Are you even more excited now? I’m sure you’re ready to head over to Ristorante Pizzeria L’Italiano now. And when you do, make sure to tell them Lisa sent you!
