Miguel, co-owner of The BEACH CORNER Guesthouse
At 35 years old, Miguel and his business partner Ricardo took over the guesthouse together in January of this year (2019). Having only been open as a beach guesthouse for 3 years, the house itself is a very old, and stereotypically traditional Portuguese structure.
The two friends decided to make their long-time dream to open an accommodation for travelers a reality. As they both traveled extensively together over the years, this was their way of giving back their love to others.
Rooms & More
With only 5 rooms in the whole house, The BEACH CORNER Guesthouse is the perfect place to feel at home, safe and comfortable while you’re in town for a few days.
Prices are low, but the views, comfort and location are more than you could ask for. Miguel and Ricardo wanted to create a place for traveler and surfers alike that would be close to the beach, but for people who are looking to stick to a budget.
Normally they have more foreigners frequenting the establishment, receiving guests from all over the world. On that note, I was their first American visitor, and I’m proud to carry the title!
2 of the rooms at the guesthouse have double beds, while 2 others have twins, and only 1 has bunk beds. Obviously the higher the category of room, the higher the price. All rooms have a shared bathroom, except the one I was lucky enough to book, which has an en-suite bathroom.
As an added touch, breakfast is also included in your stay. Located just a few steps from the guesthouse, a cafe that the property is affiliated with will offer guests coffee, water, jams, bread and a few select pastries.
Why to Stay at The “Corner”
Plans for the future include opening a solarium above the garage area. Because they have a lot of wind in Espinho coming in from the north, they feel it’s the perfect place for people to sit to soak up the sun. Guests are welcome to take their time sunbathing and listen to music. The project is expected to be a positive one.

The benefits to staying at The BEACH CORNER Guesthouse? Firstly, because you’re staying in a typically traditional house, it makes you feel as though you are a part of something historic and local. Secondly, you’re only 200 meters from the beach, which, there’s no need to point out is a real bonus for anyone looking to spend some quality time under those Portuguese rays. Thirdly, because they are just far enough from the ocean, you don’t have to worry about hearing the noise of the waves. Just in case you tend to be a light sleeper and aren’t used to the sound, being at just enough of a distance from the ocean is helpful.
And lastly, Miguel thinks people make themselves feel very at home when staying here. Being given a key to the house, you are free to come and go as you please, making it feel like you really are at your own place. A convenience that most anyone can appreciate.
My Experience at “The Beach”
My experience at The BEACH CORNER? It was fantastic. I was quite pleased to have not just the bare necessities in my room, but a very comfortable bed, a hair dryer and even a welcome bottle of wine. Oreo cookies and bottled water were also waiting for me upon my arrival, and there were no complaints on my end. From my balcony, I had a partial view of the sea. Not only that, but I also had a front row seat to the fireworks show that Espinho put on two nights in a row.
Not only was my room comfortable, but the whole guesthouse is super convenient for any visitor. An accessible kitchen downstairs, they have a super large fridge, a microwave and stove. So help yourself to anything and everything, including a welcome drink on the kitchen counter. Need to do laundry? No sweat, they have a facility downstairs complete with washing machine and rack. Need a beach umbrella? You’re set! They’ve got them available at the guesthouse, including beach balls and more.
In Conclusion
And if you’re in the mood to spend some quality TV time, there is a set in the living room. Guests are welcome to watch anything anytime.
The whole house is decorated in a beach theme. So you’ll definitely feel like getting in touch with that beach bum that lives inside of us all!
