Bora B&B – Troia, Italy

Welcome to Bora B&B, where the views will blow you away, the comfort will keep you staying extra days, and where the captivating town’s history and charm hasn’t faded away…

Welcome to the tiny town of Troia, Italy. With a  population just over 7,000, the town has an incredible history and some fun facts no one outside of the country probably knows. To start with, Troia has a beautiful geography unlike most parts of Puglia. The town, which is elevated on a hill, it rises above the plain of Puglia. Which means that at the right viewpoint, you can overlook certain parts of the region. In Troia there are actually some maritime pine trees, which I can’t say I’d ever seen in any other part of the region. Giving a resemblance to a more Northern climate, the trees are a beautiful addition to the already charming town.

The town we know today was established in 1019 by the Byzantines, but the place itself goes back even farther. Legend has it that the Greek hero Diomedes founded Troia – the same Greek warrior that had destroyed the ancient city of Troy. Likely where this Italian town name is derived, considering Troia is the Latin form of Troy.

Needless to say, this place has its past, and of course, now has a present as well.

Let me start off by saying, this place is cool, and is really hidden away. Troia is not exactly a  tourist destination, and therefore not exactly the easiest to get to unless you have a car. It is the only municipality in Italy as of 2009 that offers free public transportation however, which is solid if you want to get around the town itself – just getting there is a hassle. Trains go in and out of Foggia regularly of course, the capital of the province, but from Foggia you’ll need to find an automobile to get you to Troia.

But let’s get back to why this place is cool. One could argue that one of the reasons why its so cool is because it is in fact hidden. Because not many tourists make their way out to this unknown town, the B&B is going to be pretty well all to yourself. With limited rooms, they are ample, with a comfortable bed, Jacuzzi style tub-shower, and the most spectacular view.

By day, and by night

The owner is courteous and hospitable, and the common room for guests is full of books, couches, a dining room table and chairs with typical pre-wrapped breakfast treats and a fully stocked kitchen available for use.

The comfort, quiet and location of this B&B make it ideal to spend a night or two here, and if you’re someone who doesn’t even like to go into town but instead stay inside writing or reading  – this is absolutely the spot designed for you. With a mountainous feel I’d never experienced before in the south of Italy, this is truly a unique spot on the map that everyone should check out.

I would definitely recommend visiting Troia, as it is a beautiful little town with historic charm and lovely architecture, but definitely stay at Bora B&B to add to your comfort while you’re there.
