B&B La Dimora del Conte – Castelnuovo Berardenga, Italy

Smack dab in the middle of a Tuscan postcard, you’ll find the quaint and charming – yet amply spaced – cottage, known as the B&B La Dimora del Conte. In a remote spot in northern Tuscany that you’ve probably never heard of, Castelnuovo Berrardenga, it lies 30 minutes northeast of Siena, and one hour by car from the famous wine capital of Chianti.

Though this remote spot is one most don’t know about, the landscape is something everyone is all too familiar with – be it film, postcards, paintings of Tuscany, you name it, you know it. The countryside that is wrought with rolling haystacks and hills, and the tall Italian Cyprus trees, the scenery alone is reason enough to visit this peaceful and unique spot on the map.

And you can do so in comfort by staying at this little guesthouse.

The private owners of this little house, offer guests the option of picking them up at the train station (as they did for me), and also bringing them a freshly cooked breakfast each morning during their stay.

The cottage is typical in style and architecture for Tuscany, whilst still accommodating guests with a modern comfort. With two guest rooms accommodating 2 guests per room, the house can probably hold up to 5+ people if they want to stay on the living room sofa.

The kitchen is fully equipped, and I did make myself dinner one evening while I stayed here out of convenience. The bed was comfortable and the decor charming.

With zero complaints about the peace and quiet I found there, I still took advantage of going with the owner on my last day to a wine festival in Chianti – which I definitely don’t regret doing. Obviously, depending on what time of year you stay, there’s no guarantee there will be a festival, but you can certainly aim for that if your schedule allows for it.

All in all, the accommodations were great, the scenery picturesque and unforgettable, and you will definitely want to consider this as a great escape from the noisy traffic of Siena while you’re in Northern Tuscany. Just make sure that when you do book your stay here at B&B La Dimore del Conte, you let them know that Lisa sent you!
