Maverick City Lodge – Budapest, Hungary

Hostels have a certain reputation. Whether it’s that you think of it as a wild place for college students to save a buck while backpacking around Europe, or maybe you think of horror movies. But either way, the word “hostel” conjures up different ideas for different people. But at a place like Maverick City Lodge, the hostel way might just be the best way.

If you’re on a budget, this is a great place to hang your hat. The rates are very low compared to hotels, but if you rent a private room like I did, the experience is going to be like staying at a budget-friendly hotel. I got a room with two beds, a private en-suite bathroom, and plenty of room for my stuff.

The hostel also offers a couple of different communal areas, one in the lobby where guests can sit around talking, play music or work on their laptops. The other, is the kitchen/dining area, where guests are welcome to cook, prepare food and utilize one of several dining tables and chairs. What’s also super unique and fun about this room, is that guests from all over the world have stuck post-it notes all over the walls, creating a light-hearted vibe.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again, given the affordability, the location – near Blaha Lujza ter – and of course the comfort. Whether you’re a young adventurer on a tight budget, or an experienced and mature traveler just looking to stretch your dollar, I would recommend Maverick City Lodge as a great place to stay. Just make sure that when you book your room, you let them know Lisa sent you!
