Műhely Pub – Budapest, Hungary

When traveling to Budapest, you have an innumerable amount of options where you can eat, drink and sleep. There is no shortage of restaurants, hotels, B&Bs and bars. But some are much better choices than others. And Műhely Pub is definitely one of the better choices. Though you may not have heard the name, and even locals might not know it, Műhely is actually a really famous bar. And the reason it’s so famous has nothing to do with Hungary’s long standing history. Rather, its fame came to pass due to a Hungarian television series (my personal favorite, as it happens).

Ejjel-Nappal Budapest which began airing in 2013, has been showcasing the bar as one of the main hangouts for nearly two years. Given the name of the bar is different on the show, this could be why tourists and Budapestens walk by the bar every day without knowing its story. What you’ll find at Műhely Pub is not just a very unique décor and ambiance, but also some of the best and kindest service in the whole capital.

A relatively small bar, it’s the low-key, cool and get away from reality vibe that most certainly brings people in. Located on Buda, the bar is more than likely frequented by those looking for a beer or shot of Pálinka after work. But it’s also a great spot for that group of tourists looking for a fun night out with some cocktails and hot sandwiches.

Owned by a group of three men, they were honored when RTL Klub (the biggest Hungarian network in the country) approached them to feature the bar on the country’s highest rated television show. Giving them some extra publicity, the bar has flourished since they purchased it several years ago. And to highlight art imitating life – there are three characters who own the bar on the show as well.

To fully appreciate the fun setting that is Műhely, you really should watch the video I created for you all. From the lighting fixtures over the bar, to the backlit wall where the alcohol is placed – it’s all just right. A great place to hang out and talk, it’s also the perfect spot to gather a group of friends and party hard all night long.

Good music on all the time, hard wood floors, and comfortable seating of several different sofas – you won’t want to leave Műhely once you get there.

And the prices? The prices for food are unbeatable in Budapest, and especially for how tasty it all is. The drinks are average for the city. Some of the cocktails are typical for anywhere you go, while others are signature classics to the establishment. You don’t want to leave until you try a Pina Colada though!

If you’re a fan of the show like me, they might just let you stand behind the bar to get your picture taken. For me, this was the highlight of my last trip to Budapest, getting to visit the Kert – I mean, Műhely Pub.

So the next time you’re in Budapest, stop in at Műhely and have a drink or two…or three or four. You’ll feel pretty cool knowing you’re at a place even the locals might not realize is being viewed by millions around the country each night. But when you stop in, just make sure to let them know that Lisa sent you!
