It all began 24 years ago. Martha McCullough has been doing hair for a long time, and it’s that tenacious perseverance that has made her the skilled hair stylist that she is today.
How it Began

While in high school, the idea of becoming a hair stylist came to her at random. Just for fun, she was cutting and styling a girlfriend’s hair, when it occurred to her that, not only was she good at this, but because hair would always be changing and evolving it was a career that would constantly keep her hands and mind active. That’s when she made the decision to attend cosmetology school.
Starting at the E. Christopher salon at the young age of 20, Martha began only on commission. And since then, with age and experience, she’s grown her skill set from working for others to working for herself.
“I’ve learned so many tricks over the years with constant continuing education,” she tells me. As many hairstylists can be, Martha has the gift of gab, and is always in a cheery mood. There’s not much to sour the vibe in Martha’s salon – she’s always happy to see her customers and perhaps that’s the main reason they’re happy to see her.
“I believe hair color and haircuts go hand in hand, which is why I would choose those [as my favorite things to do],” she goes on. “I love to achieve that perfect color the client is wanting while choosing a haircut that really shows off that color, as well as being functional for the client’s lifestyle.” A key point in any good hairdresser’s mark, is knowing that day to day life their client has. This helps in knowing what the easiest, but most stylish do they’re going to want, and need.
“The most common request I get for hair would be anything that changes their appearance whether it be some kind of color, cut or even a simple changing of the part can make all the difference,” she tells me, after I request essentially the same thing.
My Experience with Martha
I was there for a long time the day I visited Martha’s salon. And for good reason. I got a whole spankin’ new look – and it was so worth the time invested. To start off, we did a root touch up, and highlights. Followed by a shampoo, conditioning treatment, a salon hair dryer chair, and then a new hair cut. After this, a blow out, curl, and then the finale included a beautiful half up do. I absolutely adored it and wished it would last forever! Martha’s talents were displayed in all facets of how she did my hair that day and it was absolutely fabulous.
And did we get along? Uh, yeah. She’s awesome, and one of the friendliest hairstylists I’ve ever met and will keep going back to her for as long as I can!

“I feel like my personality and willingness to listen to what the client really wants to achieve with their hair as well as finding a style that they can easily reproduce at home [is what sets me apart],” she tells me, and I couldn’t agree more. She goes on to say that it’s very important to know how much time the client is willing to spend on their chosen hairstyle. This helps Martha determine how complicated, or simple that hair style needs to be for every individual client. Which is highly appreciated from those of us with very fickle hair…

In general, you’re not going to find many hairstylists around who are as talented, friendly and reasonably priced as Hair by Martha.

You definitely need to pay her a visit, and make her your regular gal for all things hair either when visiting or living in the greater Dallas area. Just make sure that when you book your appointment with her, you let her know that Lisa sent you!
