Toast & Jam Brunch Restaurant – Schererville, Indiana

Looking for some breakfast fare? How about breakfast all day long? How about in a really vibrant and unique location? Then you should probably check out Toast & Jam in Schererville, Indiana. With just about everything but the kitchen sink on their menu, there’s no chance you’ll go hungry here…

In 2015 a group of friends got together one day. While chatting, they threw out the idea of opening a breakfast place, and the rest was history. Simple enough, the owner Helens explains that the restaurant isn’t so much about she and her husband who run the place, but rather their employees and customers.

“We truly care about our guests. We want each and every person to leave here happy and excited to come back.  We are a family. It’s not just a job.”

The name is derived from food, music and celebrating. And naturally, their main appetizer is named after their place of business, Toast and Jam. Which if I may say, was one of my favorite things on the menu.

With “things in the works” as Helen states, Toast & Jam may not be the only thing on their repertoire of business endeavors to come. Exciting stuff, considering how well they’ve done with their present establishment. There’s always the hope that there will be something else just as unique and special down the road. Both figuratively and literally.

But onto the food, which is really what it’s all about, right? Their menu is massive. Extensive, detailed and filling your eyes up before your stomach, there’s almost too much to choose from.  Surely, there’s something for everyone.  With what appeared to be 3,000 items on the lengthy two page list, it was hard not to order everything – but I tried. And did a pretty good job.  I would say I managed to order at least one fourth of what was available to me, if not more.

While Helen tells me their most popular items are Strawberries & Cream French Toast, Banana Curmble French Toast, The Big Easy Skillet and the Farmhouse Breakfast – mine was none of these. In fact, it may come as a surprise that my favoite dish that day was in fact a lunch item.  And what an item it was! The Mac Burger to be specific. This ginormous burger filled with beef, mac n’ cheese, and grilled cheese toast – it’s outrageously delicious, huge and eye catching!

A very close second for me was the Breakfast Steak and Egg Burrito.  Scrambled eggs, marinated steak onions, peppers, tomato, and cheddar jack cheese on a sun-dried tomato tortilla with salsa verde.

And as for my third runner up, I’d probably have to choose between two. The Canneloni Pancakes (because, just read that again), and the Build Your Own Omlette which was simply mouthwatering in falvor.

Something exceptionally good here at Toast and Jam is that their sausages are all different in flavor, and each dish has its own uniqueness.

Really too, what more could you ask for as far as quantity on a menu? There’s just about every single breakfast item known to man, and then some.

And make sure you check out their baristas. Yes, similar to a coffee mixologist, these people know what they’re doing in the way of making a coffee drink. Their most popular drinks are their mimosa pitcher, and any of their number of espresso drinks. Not limited to Toast & Jam’s Cappuccino.  According to Helen their Greek coffees have also become quite the popular item.

The décor is most definitely the best part of Toast & Jam, with couples so nicely with the friendly atmosphere and vibe that the staff give to their guests. You can’t go wrong with that kind of service – it always goes a long way.

When asked if their food is fresh to order, Helen smiles and says,

“Our food is very fresh and read to order. I always joke that our freezer is bare because we don’t use frozen foods.  All meats and veggies are chopped fresh too. Salsas and sauces are all homemade. Breads are fluffy and bakery fresh.”  Which reminds me of their signature appetizer – the Toast & Jam, that I mentioned before. Fresh, homemade and warm from the oven.  Blueberry and banana bread and bisquit with unique flavored jams. Yum. That’s all you need to know.

Helen tells me that Toast & Jam isn’t just some place you go when you’re hungry.

“We’re a place you go to have an experience.  Good food, conversation, positive energy and a nice atmosphere.” And this is all so true. A unique spot in an otherewise pretty stale town, Toast & Jam has a life of its own going on inside.

And just in case you were interested in knowing, Toast & Jam also offers catering, a banquet room, private events, outdoor patio seating in the summer months, and outdoor special events.

These are definitely all reasons to check out Toast & Jam the next time you are in Schererville. A friendly, vibrant place where one would find it a challenge to go hungry.

Just make sure when you stop in to visit, you let them know Lisa sent you!
