Rustic Luxury & Missouri Wine at Its Finest
It’s not every day that I get to eat and drink at the same place USA Today voted number one winery & restaurant in America. But I had the opportunity to do so while visiting the charming little spot in Missouri known as Ste. Genevieve. Not many know of this little town, or its surrounding wine country, but for those of you who want to experience true beauty and delicious food, you need to come to Chaumette Winery to taste it for yourself!
Missouri Wine? Yes, Really.
Wine enthusiasts like me are always excited to try new wine. There was no exception to this while I was in Missouri and had the chance to visit Chaumette Winery, where I got to partake in a type of wine I didn’t even know existed: Missouri wine.

An acquired taste (though one could argue all wine is), the selections they have here at Chaumette are unique in taste and in preparation. The food too—brilliantly presented and executed—is likewise one of the most unique experiences you’ll ever have.
My Experience at Chaumette
Quite possibly the best steak I’ve ever had in my life, their Bone-in Berkshire Pork Chop was divine as well. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.
According to their website:
“We believe that gathering together over food and wine holds the key to a full, rich life and deepened connections. While you’re visiting Chaumette Vineyards & Winery, we invite you to dine with us at the Grapevine Grill. Voted the number one winery restaurant in the nation by USA Today, the Grapevine Grill offers a unique, elevated dining experience for everyone.
Chaumette proudly provides a delightful array of menu options that everyone can enjoy. Executive Chef Rob Beasley has been sourcing local ingredients for more than 30 years and provides our guests with an unforgettable farm-to-fork culinary experience. With a new American cooking style peppered with Cajun-Creole-Southwest influences, Chef Beasley is sure to prepare an exceptional meal or appetizer that you will love.”
And I was not disappointed. Starting with a goat cheese dip, we worked our way from the best Pinot Noir I’ve had in a long time, to the best steak of all time.

The Ambiance: Rustic, Cozy, and Remote
The restaurant’s vibes were rustic and cozy. Giving you the sense that you are at a lodge, rather than at some nationally recognized restaurant—you don’t soon forget how far from the city you really are. Though still considered a part of Ste. Genevieve, it’s a 30-minute drive from the historic downtown. Making it necessary to be one with nature by the time you arrive at the winery’s restaurant.

Ensconced by rolling hills, the sound of crickets at night, and the stillness of calm, fresh air, you are truly in a land unknown to citizens of St. Louis a mere 2 hours away.
And while prices at Chaumette are not low, you only live once. The experience is worth the cost, and the friendly knowledgeable staff (including the very personable owner and chef) will make you feel right at home.
