Addison, Texas is known for its vast array of restaurants, picturesque parks, and festivals in what is known as “Addison Circle” all year round. But what no one knows about, and they should, is that the most sophisticated little Thai Spa has just recently opened here, and everyone needs to visit.
Though people may not fully appreciate the differences between Swedish, deep-tissue, relaxation or Thai, massages in all forms are a very therapeutic way of dealing with a load of various issues. It helps with stress, physical pain – even emotional pain. It’s great for circulation, and overall health.
Thai massages however are completely different than a “standard” massage. And it’s what makes Thai massages so unique. Traditionally there’s a lot of stretching involved and walking on the client’s back. Which, depending on how you roll, this may or may not be your cup of tea.
Luckily for me, it is. I have a particularly finicky back and I like my massages rough. Thai massages are perfect for that. That’s not to say that there aren’t moments when a little Thai woman walking all over me may not make me gasp for air – because it can – but overall it feels great when you hear those pops, cracks and knots being forced into a submissive state.
And while there are lots of Thai massage studios out there, Tranquility Thai Massage in Addison, Texas is a brand new addition to the fold, but unique on its own.
Meet JaJa, who’s full name is Somsap Gang. At 49, this petite gal is stronger than she looks. Moving here from Surin, Thailand in 2013, she married a U.S. serviceman who was stationed in Thailand just one year earlier. Initially working in the food industry stateside, she eventually began working at several different Thai spas, ulitimately getting her license as a massage therapist here in America.
Meet Tom. A mentor and investor in the spa, he is the American counterpart to the duo that have just as recently as April of this year opened Tranquility Thai Spa. With a background in technology, he started his career in the early 1970s. His natural talent for creating successful start up companies is no doubt, why they are starting out so strong.
The spa is well put together, relaxing and comfortable. With 5 rooms in total, the best of course is the romance package room. I had the privilege to use this room while getting my massage, and as I state at the beginning of the video, I felt like I was on an “alone honeymoon”. Nothing could have been more accurate to the truth. With divine monogramed cotton bathrobes awaiting me when I walked in (and slippers) the room has a very quintessentially romantic fireplace, and champagne service. The sofa I could lounge on was terribly comfortable and I was already relaxed before the massage even began.
The spa offers coffee, tea, champagne and the friendliest staff. With 7 therapists on staff, they strive to have at least 3 people working at any given time.
The massages are something to get excited about too. Though they focus primarily on Thai massages, each of their massage therapists are fully cross-trained in several techniques. Services are around $80 per hour, per therapist, They also offer a “four-handed” couple’s massage. I got a four-handed Thai massage and it was simply amazing. If you want to add on hot stones, which I did, that’s an additional $20.
And the overall vibe? Relaxing yes, but mostly charming. The two ladies, JaJa and Rose who were kind enough to entreat me with a four-handed massage for over an hour were just simply delightful. We laughed more than in any massage I’ve ever had, and they were all-around joyful gals.
And the massage? Why not watch the video below to see how enjoyable it was, and how unique in style as well? Yes, they walked on my back. Yes, they stretched me here, there and everywhere. But they also did deep-tissue stuff. They also did relaxation stuff. They also did aromatherapy. And hot stones. And showed me what heaven was like by massaging my feet and my scalp at the same time, and I think I can die happy now.
Overall my experience at Tranquility Thai Spa was stellar, and I highly recommend coming here whether you’re in Addison or a little far from it. It’s definitely worth the drive.
